After what feels like an endless season of summer, autumn is gradually making itself known in the city with cooler evenings and mornings on the horizon. Set to officially commence on September 23 at precisely 4.05am according to astronomical calculations. Which can only mean one thing for all of us: more outdoorsy activities. Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society and an esteemed member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, claimed that winter clouds are set to arrive in mid-October, with the chance of rain increasing after the middle of autumn. The season is set to begin with the autumnal equinox, which is when the sun is directly above the equator before it heads southwards. In simpler terms, this is when days and nights come to be nearly the same length, before nights gradually tend to become longer. The average temperature during the beginning of the season will be around 39°C, with minimums of 26°C. And around early November, we can expect to see highs of 31°C with the lows nearing 18°C. While the much-anticipated December can see temperatures rise to about 25°C and later drop to a cool 13°C. And that’s not all, though; this is also the time when residents can see several striking constellations and stars, including Orion, Taurus, Leo, Sirius, Canopus and the Pleiades, will all be prominently visible across the eastern skies before dawn.
