Dubai’s That Concept Store in Mall of the Emirates is closing down

For nearly two decades, Mall of the Emirates has been the ultimate go-to spot for all things shopping for those residing in Dubai. It has you covered on everything from masstige essentials to luxury high fashion front. And one such store that revelled over such a concept was, That Concept Store. Tucked right up ahead of the fashion dome is where you’d find this massive two-storeyed retail store that harbours all the niche global and international brands. But earlier this year Majid Al Futtaim announced the closure of this fashion retailer, with plans to expand the space into a next-generation of lifestyle destination. While the beloved store was home to nearly all things artsy and unique collectibles that championed regional talents like Bil Arabi and Azza Fahmy to international brands like Marni, Coperni, Proenza Schouler and more. The space never lacked the bandwidth for creativity or how you could mix your prints with your patterns. That Concept Store was indeed a playground for all those who loved to experiment, whether it be fashion, beauty or interior. With it’s closure announced, the store is currently being phased out as part of the mall’s massive $1.3 billion luxury renovation. Commenting on this large scale overhaul, a MAF representative stated, “As Mall of the Emirates enters its next chapter, Majid Al Futtaim will honour THAT’s legacy by delivering a sharper luxury proposition, stronger global brand partnerships, and a truly immersive destination experience.” This begs the question: Could this massive double-decker footprint be remodeled into the mall’s highly anticipated new indoor-outdoor precinct, ‘The Hangout’?
