The partnership will look at how underground tunnels could be used for transport, utilities and other infrastructure across Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC) has signed an agreement with The Boring Company to see what could work in the emirate, including how possible projects could be built and operated. The two sides will also look at how underground infrastructure could help improve connections around Abu Dhabi, make the city’s infrastructure more reliable and support future development. There’s also the potential for Abu Dhabi to become a regional hub for new tunnelling technology, with the partnership looking at ways to build up local skills and expertise. The agreement was signed at the Liveability and Investment Exhibition (LIVEX 2026) in Abu Dhabi by ADPIC Director General Maysarah Mahmoud Salim Eid and The Boring Company President Steve Davis. As of right now, there are no confirmed underground transport projects just yet, but this could be an exciting step towards a very different future for getting around Abu Dhabi. In other exciting transport news, Etihad Rail officially launched its passenger service in June to Fujairah and to Dubai just last month in September after months of waiting, giving people a new way to travel around the UAE. The trains connect different parts of the emirate, making it easier to get from one city to another without having to drive. It’s also a great way to explore more of the UAE, while saving time and money along the way. To give you the full picture, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about Etihad Rail, from routes and ticket prices to timings and how to book.
