In pics: Sheikh Mohammed visits the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi

The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi opened its doors last November and is already proving popular, especially among dinosaur fans. And this month, it even received a royal visitor: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The Dubai Ruler was photographed visiting the cultural landmark in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District over the past weekend. During his visit, Sheikh Mohammed stated that investing in museums is an investment in humanity’s future, fostering awareness among future generations and enabling them to shape the future with a deeper understanding of the past. Sheikh Mohammed also highlighted the thriving museum sector in the UAE, reflecting the country’s growing commitment to its cultural and heritage institutions. The Dubai Ruler added that the UAE continues to support and develop its cultural sectors, with museums playing a vital role in preserving the nation’s heritage and connecting it with the wider world. During his visit, Sheikh Mohammed was briefed on the immersive experiences at the museum which spans the history of the universe, planet earth and life over millions of years. He also paid a visit to a piece of the moon on display at the museum and other rare meteorites and fossils. In photos shared by the Dubai Media Office, we see Sheikh Mohammed visiting the museum’s towering dinosaur skeletons, a dodo bird, a four-tusked elephant and more. So, if you needed a sign to finally make the trip to Abu Dhabi’s newest cultural landmark, perhaps this is it. From dinosaurs that once roamed the Earth to meteorites that travelled through space, there’s plenty to stomp, wander and wonder your way through. The recently announced Dar al Funoon will be yet another exciting addition to Saadiyat Island’s cultural landscape. The performing arts centre will have a total seat capacity of 6,000 spanning its performance hall, open-air amphitheatre, studio theatre and jazz venue.
