Is Phantom of the Opera heading to Abu Dhabi? Here’s what we know…

There’s something lurking in the shadows of Abu Dhabi… and no, we’re not talking about Halloween. The Phantom of the Opera could be coming to the capital, and while there’s no official confirmation just yet, the clues are getting rather hard to ignore. The first comes courtesy of Etihad Arena’s official social media channels. In the cryptic video, rose petals blow across desert dunes before making their way to Yas Island. The final shot shows a single rose stem outside Etihad Arena before the arena lights flicker and go out. Then comes the very obvious clue. Text appears on screen reading: ‘After 40 years of haunting stages, he is coming to Abu Dhabi.’ A post shared by Etihad Arena (@etihadarena.ae) A quick Google search confirms the timing. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera had its world premiere on October 9, 1986, at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End. That makes 2026 the musical’s 40th anniversary. The caption reveals that more will be unveiled on October 9, 2026, so we won’t have long to wait. For now, that’s all we know. There’s no official date, ticket information or pricing just yet, but Team What’s On will be keeping a very close eye on Etihad Arena’s channels and will bring you the details as soon as they’re confirmed. (Anyone else wondering how they’ll pull off the chandelier scene in Abu Dhabi? Just us?) The Phantom of the Opera has been performed in the UAE before, but if our guess is true, this will be the first time it will be performed in the capital. It made its UAE debut at Dubai Opera in October 2019.
