Kids can learn to DJ, start a band and write songs at this Summer Sound Lab

If you’ve got a mini musician in the house, we’ve got just the playlist for you. The Summer Sound Lab by Habeati Studios is a fully immersive four-week course that takes kids aged eight-to-16 on a journey through multiple musical styles, skill sets, and proficiencies, all leading up to a thrilling final performance. The course, booking options from one to four weeks (starting at Dhs1,750), goes beyond simply introducing budding beat-smiths to new instruments. The Summer Sound Lab was curated to illuminate the full creative process of making great music. Here, children are encouraged to write their own original songs, learn how to play as part of a band, develop existing talent, pick up new skills and collaborate with like-minded creatives. Each week builds on the learning of the last, with tailored support from established professionals. It’s about dialling-in to the fundamentals of music, nurturing a love of the art, celebrating inclusivity, and inspiring the next generation of musical maestros. This year, there are two huge additions to the Summer Sound Lab setlist. First up, there’s a deep dive into the essential ‘ones and twos’ of DJ skills. Inviting your mini Martin Garrix or potential Peggy Gou to step up to the decks and flex mastery over music mixing and beat-matching. Then there’s the box-fresh Hip Hop and Breakdance element – with flavour notes of rhythm, movement, coordination and stage presence. The sonic safari all leads towards a final concert, a Sound Lab-apalooza, that allows the talented juniors to showcase the music they’ve created during the programme. It’s an opportunity to experience the thrill of performing live in front of an audience, to understand the importance of teamwork, and to realise how far they’ve come during the experience.
