RTA’s new Al Meydan Street project to cut travel time from 30 to 10 minutes

As schools reopen for the new academic year, traffic returns to Dubai. But fortunately, with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA)’s constant initiatives in road expansions and urban city planning, the city has grown to be more commutable than ever. And their latest initiative is one mega project that needs to be on everyone’s radar. The RTA has set out plans for a Dhs1.161 billion development of Al Meydan Street, a strategic project that will enhance one of Dubai’s main road networks. This traffic project will be developed along the key intersections of Al Meydan Street and will add 3.7km of bridges and 17km of roads. That’s not all, though; the true cherry on top is a wider new network of cycling tracks that connects to Dubai’s existing cycling network, perfect for a scenic cruise around the city. Set for completion by the end of 2028, it’s set to improve traffic flow around residential areas that more than half a million people in Dubai call home. Running parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, it will provide an alternative for commuters that reduces traffic and improves mobility between some of the city’s key areas. Speaking about the impact of the new Al Meydan Street Development Project, HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA explained that, “It will raise the capacity of north–south traffic corridors by 18% and reduce travel time from Al Manama Street and Dubai–Al Ain Road to Umm Suqeim Street from 30 minutes to 10 minutes, an improvement of 66%.” A post shared by DubaiMediaOffice (@dubaimediaoffice)
