The biggest things coming to Dubai in 2027

The city is set for another busy year of openings, events and major infrastructure milestones. Here are some of the biggest things to have on your radar. One of Dubai’s most recognisable landmarks is getting a refresh. Jumeirah Burj Al Arab closed in April 2026 for a major restoration programme, with the work expected to take around 18 months. The interiors are being updated while retaining the hotel’s distinctive design, with French interior architect Tristan Auer leading the project. The hotel is expected to welcome guests back in October 2027, giving visitors another chance to experience the iconic sail-shaped property after its transformation. After a decade away, the Dubai International Film Festival is returning. The festival’s 15th edition will open on December 8, 2027, marking its return after the last edition in 2017. The revived festival will have a renewed focus on Arab cinema and filmmakers, alongside screenings, industry events and opportunities for emerging talent. It is set to bring some serious star power and a major dose of cinema back to Dubai. Aviation fans will have another big date for the diary in 2027.
