You can now book Dubai’s driverless taxis on Uber

Dubai’s self-driving cars have been on the roads for several months now, but as the fleet expands, it’s becoming easier to book a driverless taxi in Dubai, with the autonomous Apollo Go vehicles now available to book on Uber. Uber has teamed up with Apollo Go, one of the companies behind Dubai’s driverless taxis, to offer autonomous rides on the app in select locations across Dubai. So if you’re looking for a driver-free ride to your next destination, here’s what you need to know When requesting a ride, you’ll need to select ‘Autonomous’ if your trip is eligible. Autonomous vehicles are currently operational in and around Jumeirah, between Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Mosque, so your trip will need to be within this area if you want to pick up the self-driving Apollo Go vehicle. Once the Apollo Go AV has arrived at your pickup location, check that the license plate and the car make and model match what’s in the Uber app, as you would with a normal ride. When you’re ready to hop in, you’ll need to choose ‘Unlock’ in the Uber app, and you’ll be able to get comfy inside before beginning your journey. The service uses Apollo Go’s sixth-generation RT6, a purpose-built, fully electric robotaxi designed for fully driverless operations. Accommodating up to three passengers, each vehicle is equipped with more than 30 sensors for comprehensive perception of its surroundings and real-time onboard data processing. Once you reach your destination, just make sure you’ve got all your belongings before exiting as you normally would.
